Historic Houses of Ireland in partnership with AirBnB are holding an inaugural Autumn School designed to help historic houses thrive through tourism.

The Autumn School, on Wednesday 23 October at Burtown House in Co Kildare, which is also supported by HHI longstanding partners and friends including Castleacre Insurance, The Heritage Council, Sotheby’s Ireland and Sherry Fitzgerald Country Homes, Farms and Estates is open to members and non-members and promises to offer a fascinating insight into how heritage and tourism can work hand in glove to preserve Ireland’s unique character while helping create a thriving rural economy that strengthens community connections. You can also join HHI for a Gala Dinner at Burtown’s award-winning Green Barn restaurant on Tuesday 22 October kindly hosted by owners, James and Joanna Fennell.

HHI’s Autumn School will bring together owners of some of our most beautiful historic buildings with heritage and tourism experts. A series of talks discussing how tourism can improve income streams; help maintain and preserve these important buildings and their demesnes and, ensure these houses remain at the heart of their local communities.

HHI says this is the chance ‘to be part of charting a course for a thriving future for historic houses both at the centre of rural Irish tourism and as a compelling ambassador for Ireland.’

There will be conversations discussing everything from agritourism to rewilding, events hosting to brewing and distilling and the pros and cons of improving access to gardens and parkland. Each talk will end with a Q and A session allowing attendees to share innovative ideas and their experiences.
