Castleacre were delighted to support Belfast’s Queen’s University rowing team at Henley International Rowing Competition this year.
Fergus Bryce, Ronan Gibbon, Hugh Moore and Ciaran Purdy were the first Queen’s team competing in this prestigious international regatta to make it to the semi-finals of the Prince of Wales Challenge cup in more than 5o years.
The Queen’s University team of four rowers comfortably beat a seeded crew of ex-international Danish Rowers and a composite team from London and Lea Rowing club to eventually make the semi-final of the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup and battle the eminent Leander club, widely viewed as the powerhouse of British Olympic Rowers. Although the Leander Club went on to win the cup in the final, the Queen’s team were their toughest opposition over the competition and Ronan Gibbon said ‘we are eager to give it another go as soon as we can..’ so watch this space.
